Privacy policy
How we handle data on this site.
The short version: we collect very little, and only what's needed to run this site and respond to enquiries. Last updated May 2026.
Who we are
This site, garethhoyle.com, is operated by Marketing Signals Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. The site is part of Gareth Hoyle's personal and professional presence; the company sits behind it as the legal entity providing services and handling data.
Company: Marketing Signals Ltd
Company number: 09767832
VAT number: GB225235630
Registered office: Marketing Signals Limited, c/o Accountancy Extra, 33 Harrison Road, Halifax, HX1 2AF, United Kingdom
For the purposes of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, Marketing Signals Ltd is the data controller for personal information processed via this site. You can reach us at hello@garethhoyle.com.
What we collect, and why
Contact form submissions
When you fill in the contact form on this site, the information you provide (name, email, subject, and the body of your message) is sent to us by email so we can reply. We store these messages in our company email system to maintain a record of the conversation. The legal bases for processing are your consent and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
Analytics
When you accept analytics via the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages get visited, how people find the site, and roughly where in the world they are. IP anonymisation is switched on, so individual visitors are not identifiable to us. The legal basis is your consent. If you decline the cookie banner, or never interact with it, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is collected.
Server logs
The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (request URL, IP address, user agent, response time) for a short window for security and debugging purposes. We do not access these logs routinely. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the site functioning and secure.
Cookies
The site uses two categories of cookies:
Strictly necessary. A small piece of data in your browser's local storage records whether you've responded to the cookie banner. This isn't really a cookie in the traditional sense and doesn't track you, but it's mentioned for completeness.
Analytics (optional). Google Analytics 4 sets a cookie (_ga) and a per-property cookie (_ga_<ID>) that distinguish visitors and sessions. These are only set after you accept analytics via the banner.
You can change your mind at any time using the “Manage cookies” link in the site footer, or by clearing the relevant entries from your browser's storage.
Who we share data with
We use the following third-party services in operating this site. Each is bound by its own privacy policy and, where applicable, a data processing agreement with us.
- Vercel: hosting. Receives standard request data when pages are served.
- Resend: used to deliver emails generated by the contact form. Receives the contents of submitted messages.
- Google Workspace: company email system, receives contact form submissions and stores ongoing correspondence.
- Google Analytics 4: only when you have accepted the analytics cookie. Receives anonymised page-view data.
- Google Fonts and Fontshare: used to serve the site's typeface. May see your IP when fonts are loaded.
We do not sell personal data to third parties and do not share it for marketing purposes.
How long we keep things
Contact form messages are retained in our email system for as long as the conversation remains useful, typically up to two years from the last interaction unless an ongoing engagement requires longer retention. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' default retention settings (currently 14 months). Server logs are retained per Vercel's default policy (typically 30 days).
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to ask us to:
- Tell you what personal data we hold about you (right of access)
- Correct anything that's wrong (right to rectification)
- Delete your data (right to erasure)
- Stop processing your data (right to restriction)
- Receive your data in a portable format (right to data portability)
- Object to processing
Email hello@garethhoyle.com with the subject line “Data request” and we'll respond within 30 days.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
International transfers
Some of the third parties listed above (notably Vercel and Google) may process data outside the UK and EEA. They operate under standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions, providing appropriate safeguards under UK GDPR.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has submitted personal data through this site, please contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy we'll update the “last updated” date at the top. For substantial changes we'll consider posting a notice on the site's home page.
